With the right planning and monitoring, any fleet can increase its operational efficiency and reduce its expenses. By implementing the right tools and making the necessary changes, the ROI will be fast, and the result will be shown in a short period of time. Small and Compact, Large Impact Today there is a large selection of Fleet Tracking Systems or GPS Fleet Tracking devices that provides valuable information to the fleet manager in real time. The devices, which rely on both conventional mobile networks and satellites, are installed in vehicles to provide location and vehicle speed/performance data in real-time. This information assists the fleet manager/owner to ensure that only authorized use of the vehicle is being made, ad well as to ensure eco and safe driving and make sure that the driver is performing his duty in the best way possible. This way, the company can reduce any expenses related to fuel-wasting driving habits, vehicle malfunctions, and wear and tear caused to the vehicle because of dangerous and aggressive driving behavior. Enforcing Standard Operating Procedures Each vehicle that was assigned to a specific route has to stick to the route and not deviate as per the whims and fancies of the drivers. Similarly, speed of a vehicle with a consignment is an issue that needs to be addressed. In an endeavor to complete a tour of duty, a driver may resort to high speeds. This could result in damage to the consignment, especially if the nature of the load is fragile. In worst case scenarios, high speeds could result in accidents, which will cost a lot more money on repairs and higher insurance premium. Better Control – Better Results Entire fleets can be managed professionally with adequate measures to ensure efficiency and reduce unnecessary expenses with the installation of Fleet Tracking Solutions. Such GPS Fleet Tracking devices provide information on a real-time basis on desktops, laptops and smartphones in a coordinated manner for managers to take decisions and re-allocate resources to ensure pickup or delivery in the shortest possible time with better margins. Rising fuel costs have dented profit margins, and every effort to cut fuel consumption would result in significant savings to the entire fleet’s operation.

  • How is Their Driving?

ERM Advanced Telematics’ solution for driver behavior and black box - the eSafe, is designed to enable fleet managers to monitor the behavior of their drivers and to save money on fuel consumption and insurance claims, in cases of accidents. ERM has developed the eSafe - a solution for monitoring the drivers’ behavior with a Black-box for accidents reconstruction. This solution, suitable for all kinds of vehicles, identify events of accidents and record 75 second before, during and after the accident, to enable an accurate reconstruction, and real time report on the driver’s behavior. The stored data is recorded every 10m/sec (100 times every second!) to enable maximum data for post-accident analysis. eSafe provides accurate and analyzed information, rather than raw data. It analyzes the data with its inner processor, then, transmits event-based information to the server, for the fleet manager’s use. This way it saves heavy analysis time from the server side. The eSafe supports 35 predefined vehicle type profiles (such as: trucks, vans, busses, SUV, private cars, automatic / manual vehicles, etc). eSafe uses a sensitive 3-dimensional digital Axis (accelerometer) that is able to differentiate between 20 maneuver types in 3 severity levels (normal, aggressive, dangerous), which are fine-tuned according to the specific vehicle type. The eSafe is easy to install and designed to integrate with fleet management systems. It offers sound or visual alerts to the driver, based on the severity of the maneuver he performed. The device stores the data of the last 3 trips and automatically transmits its maneuver-alert data to the server via the StarLink Tracker device. Since launching the eSafe, at 2010, the eSafe won a Gold medal for Best IT Solution for Transportation at the IT World Awards. It has been successfully integrated in fleets of police and armed forces, and other public-sector organizations that wish to closely monitor the performance of their drivers and vehicles.

  • ERM present Anti-Theft Vehicle Tracking Solution

StarLink eConnect improves stolen vehicle recovery rates with unique jamming mitigation techniques and location networking capabilities. ERM Advanced Telematics, a leading designer, developer and manufacturer of vehicle tracking and security devices, announced today that the company has introduced to the market its StarLink eConnect device, an innovative vehicle tracking device with unique jamming mitigation and location networking capabilities. Today, many car thieves no longer rely on forcefully removing vehicle tracking devices during the act of stealing a vehicle and have learned to bypass the location tracking capacities of standard vehicle tracking devices with readily-available and inexpensive jamming devices that interfere with the GPS/GSM radio frequency signals transmitted by vehicle tracking devices. StarLink eConnect enables a unique anti-theft solution that counters these recent tactics commonly used by car thieves. StarLink eConnect is based on ERM’s powerful vehicle tracking device family and includes an add-on patented technology for jamming mitigation and location networking. These jamming mitigation capabilities are able to identify when the location signal of the vehicle tracking device is being interfered with by a jamming device. If and when a StarLink eConnect device identifies that its location signal is being interfered with, the device begins to transmit alerts along with location and time stamp information over a dedicated open frequency. These alerts are then rebroadcasted by other StarLink eConnect devices installed on additional vehicles in the vicinity. These alerts are trackable in real-time and provide a Stolen Vehicle Recovery service provider an improved indication of the location of a stolen vehicle. The Federal Bureau of Investigation estimates that in the United States the total value of motor vehicle thefts exceeded $4.5b in 2014, while only just over half of the locally stolen vehicles were recovered. ERM has already successfully deployed pilot implementations of StarLink eConnect at a number of Stolen Vehicle Recovery (SVR) service provider customers in South America and Israel. “We have been working with ERM for many years and the StarLink eConnect device helps us stay one step ahead of car thieves, who in our part of the world know how to use technology to improve their criminal activities,” said the CEO of Comsatel in Peru. “We have initially installed StarLink eConnect devices on a cross-section of the customer vehicles we serve and in a very short time period have been able to improve the percentage of stolen vehicles we are able to recover.” In order to extend the coverage range, individual StarLink eConnect devices can be installed in public locations, such as major intersections in areas where car thefts are common or on dedicated patrol vehicles, to further improve tracking and stolen vehicle recovery rates. “We are proud to introduce StarLink eConnect for the value it provides to our partners and the vehicle owners they serve,” stated Meir Hayman, founder and CEO of ERM Advanced Telematics. “StarLink eConnect adds an important new dimension to our partners’ businesses and helps them better fulfil their missions.”

The broad range of ERM products will include products that integrate its CAN Engine technology, which the company developed to provide a full vehicle diagnostics solution, various wireless communication and diverse add-on sensors interfacing technologies. In combination with ERM StarLink technology for telematics applications products, this diagnostics solution retrieves and conducts a smart analysis of the vehicle's operation in real-time, and sends alerts of predefined events to a server. For example, the vehicle importer can obtain real-time information about an accident or malfunctions in the vehicle, contact the driver and offer immediate and targeted assistance as needed. The StarLink technology, which is implemented in ERM's family of telematics products, is designed as a modular solution, on which additional peripherals and technologies can easily be added at any time. The modularity makes it possible to add advanced features and services, including real-time vehicle diagnostics, driver behavior monitoring, real-time accident detection, connectivity with various sensors, readings from the vehicle's different systems and additional features. In addition to the diagnostics services, ERM is developing smart products that will allow automotive OEMs and importers to add value for drivers and vehicle and fleet owners, based on their use of the vehicle, whether private or commercial, following its purchase. These products will enable vehicle manufacturers and importers to become significant after-market service providers, strengthen relations with the vehicle and fleet owners, and create new long-term revenue channels throughout the vehicle's lifecycle. As part of the diagnostic solution, ERM's telematics technology enables the reading and enquiring of data from the vehicle CAN bus and from the On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) plug. This way it is possible to provide extensive information to the OEMs, which can be obtained from insights about malfunctions and driver behavior in different situations. "ERM offers vehicle manufacturers and importers direct communications with the customer following the purchase of the vehicle," said Eitan Kirshenboim, CMO of ERM Advanced Telematics. "This is a paradigm shift that will serve both the vehicle and fleet owners and the manufacturers and importers. Drivers will benefit from a dedicated application, which will show them real-time information about the vehicle and the quality of their driving. They will also be able to obtain real-time assistance from manufacturers and importers to deal with malfunctions and accidents. For example, the vehicle manufacturers and importers can know when the vehicle's battery health is low and offer the driver a reduced price or other benefits if he goes to their service center to buy a new original battery. Automobile manufacturers and importers can undertake similar steps for a wide range of parts and services that drivers routinely need. This way OEMs and automobile importers will establish relations which they did not have before with the buyers of the vehicles, generating revenue over the years and boosting customer loyalty to the brand." Kirshenboim concluded: "Telematics is the critical key to the realization of the global industry's vision of the connected car and to the ability of the automotive manufacturers and importers to improve their revenue from customers after they have bought cars. The solutions which we will offer OEMs and importers will enable ERM to play an important part in this trend and contribute to turning the connected car to a business growth engine."

  • Parking Habits technology helps automobile dealers retrieve vehicles

ERM Advanced Telematics is stepping up efforts to offer the Parking Habits service developed by the company to automobile dealerships working in the BHPH (Buy Here Pay Here) car financing method. The Parking Habits solution monitors drivers' parking habits by building a representative model that shows where a vehicle, which has the solution installed, is parked, when it was parked during the day, week, month, and year and the frequency it was parked in any spot. Parking Habits has already enabled American car financing companies, which installed the solution, to retrieve within a few weeks 400 cars of drivers who are in arrears, saving millions of dollars. To date, ERM has provided the service as a large-scale pilot in the United States and countries in South America. Whenever the driver fails to meet the payments for the car, the company that sold the car can use a Parking Habit software to predict where the car will be parked at particular times and days and send a repossession crew to retrieve it. The Parking Habits solution can help predict problems with the payments for the car before they even occur. The car financing company is able to see if, when and how the drivers have changed their parking habits in a way that requires the company’s attention. For example, if the alerts highlight a driver that has stopped parking each morning near his or her workplace, it might suggest that the customer has lost his or her job and might have difficulties in paying for the car on time. Parking Habits is implemented as ERM-developed technology that is embedded into the StarLink tracking units that the company supplies, and on the service provider's servers, allowing the software to operate even if the driver disconnects the StarLink from his or her vehicle. The software, which resides in both the car and at the fleet management server that is used by the company that sold the car, samples the driver's parking habits at different times of the day to create a daily update profile of the parking habits, and reports the location of the car to the server in synchronization with the monitoring of the vehicle's location. "The Parking Habits service, which we developed, offers car sellers an innovative way to predict and prevent financial issues before they occur. With a small investment, ERM’s solutions can save our customers millions of dollars, as well as the hassle and the time invested in locating and retrieving vehicles that were not fully paid for," says Eitan Kirshenboim, CMO of ERM Advanced Telematics. "In the past two years, Parking Habits was successfully implemented by car financing companies, which are the customers of our partners in the United States and South America. As a preventative measure, these companies can identify situations that can signify a worsening in the customer's financial status. The companies can act accordingly before or after any delay in payments, or at least be aware of the growing risk in relation to the customer. Our Parking Habits service greatly reduces the risk companies take when offering car financing, and allows them to quickly, easily, and at minimal risk and cost retrieve vehicles for which they did not receive the required payments."

  • Anti-Ransomware Solution for Vehicles

ERM has completed development of an integrated hardware-software product that protects vehicles against ransomware and other cyber-attacks. The solution, called eCyber, is suited for both OEMs and the aftermarket. The eCyber technology, for which ERM has already registered a patent in Israel, is due to be available in the 4th quarter of 2018 for all of the company's customers and partners in 68 countries worldwide. When compared to other solutions on the market today, ERM's eCyber uniqueness is that it can be installed in a vehicle by authorized parties, such as vehicle importers and fleet managers in the aftermarket stage, after the vehicle left the factory as well as by the OEM itself during the manufacturing process. The eCyber, is installed between the vehicle's external communications device and the vehicle’s CAN Bus (Controller Area Network Bus). The eCyber performs as a secure gateway for outside communications to the CAN Bus, allowing only communications with predefined and known parameters and values to go through. At the same time, it immediately blocks any unrecognized communications to and from the CAN Bus. In this way, no malicious digital communications can disrupt the functioning of the vehicle. The eCyber, which is installed in the vehicle, is a combined hardware and software solution in a single compact box. Ransomware attacks are emerging as some of the most serious cyber risks with which connected cars must withstand. During a ransomware attack on a connected car, hackers remotely connect to the car, damage or lock it, and demand that the owner pay them ransom to resume its proper operation. More broadly, cyber risks faced by individual vehicles and fleets are attracting increasing attention in the automotive industry. According to a study by KPMG on cyber security of vehicle fleets, the average connected car has more than 150 million lines of software code. The study predicts that, by 2022, North American users of connected cars will use an average of 21 gigabytes of data per month. Additionally, the 2017 KPMG Management Survey found that 85% of automotive industry managers said that their organizations would boost investment on cyber protection over the next three years, more than any other industry included in the survey. Furthermore, according to the Irdeto Global Connected Car Survey, published in late 2017, consumers' concern about the cyber security of connected cars is liable to discourage them from buying one. 85% of respondents said that they believe that a connected car is liable to be a target for a cyber-attack. Meir Hayman, founder and CEO of ERM Advanced Telematics, stated: "ERM is working closely with the automotive industry, vehicle importers and fleet managers to improve fleets, to make them more efficient, and to protect the driver and passengers, as well as the vehicle itself. This work gives the company an in-depth understanding of all the elements regarding the protection of the vehicle and its occupants as well as cyber defense. In the technological aspect, the advantage of eCyber solution lies in its integrated hardware and software all-in one compact box, which can be adapted to any vehicle and to almost any external interface. In the business aspect, the fact that eCyber can be installed either on the production line or at any time during the vehicle’s life cycle – including in the aftermarket, practically increases the total available market to which the company can offer this patent-protected technology. ERM intends to use its broad worldwide customer deployment to help customers utilize eCyber to protect themselves against ransomware and other cyber risks."
